Bible Study - I Thessalonians 5
S - And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV
O - Commentary:
All Christians have four ongoing and continuous responsibilities to one another: (a) The idle need to be warned. Those who neglect their daily duties need to be stirred up to action. (b) the timid (oligopsychous, lit., “short of soul”) need encouragement. These fainthearted people tend to become discouraged and despondent more easily than most. They need cheering up, stimulation to press on, and extra help to live the Christian life... (c) the weak need help. These have not yet learned to lean on the Lord as much as they should for their spiritual needs. Until they do, they need strong support from other believers...(d) Be patient with everyone. While other Christians are the primary focus of patience in this context, this charge is general enough to include all people. This ability to help others who are in some respect not as strong as oneself requires nothing short of the love of God produced by the Holy Spirit

A – Paul hands us a blueprint for life together in the body of Christ. Four charges, and all four matter.
Warn the idle. Encourage the fainthearted. Help the weak. Be patient with everyone.
You can't do any of these from a distance. They're relational. They require showing up, speaking up, and sticking around. When we do them, unity and love grow in the church.
Here's why these hit home: God does every one of them for us. He calls us out when we drift. He encourages us when we're discouraged. He helps us when we're weak. And He is patient with us… a lot.
So why not give others what God keeps giving us?
Who needs a nudge from you today? Who needs a word of courage? Who needs a hand? And who needs you to be patient just a little longer?
R – Heavenly Father, You are full of grace and mercy. Thank You for Your patience with us. Every day You call us, encourage us, and help us, and we are grateful. Empower us to show that same love to the people around us today, so that You receive all the glory. In Jesus' name, amen.
