Bible Study - 2 Thessalonians 1
S - To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 1:11–12 ESV
O - Commentary:
They prayed that their God (the apostles’ and the Thessalonians) would reckon or declare the readers worthy of the calling they had received, to come to God through faith in Jesus Christ (cf. Rom. 8:30; Eph. 4:1; 1 Thes. 4:7). Paul consistently made what God has done for believers the basis of his appeals for them to lead lives in keeping with their destiny. Christians do not live worthily in order to obtain salvation but because they have been granted salvation.
A second request was that God would bring to full expression every good purpose of theirs to glorify God, and every act motivated by their faith in God. Both motives and actions have their source in God (Phil. 2:13); thus they are accomplished by His power.

A – Paul tells the Thessalonians, "We always pray for you." Then he tells them what he's praying.
He's not praying that they'd become worthy enough for God to love them. That ship sailed at the cross. We weren't worthy. Jesus paid the price anyway. He took the penalty for our sin so we could have a relationship with God.
So what's the prayer? That we would live like people who've been called. That every good intention and every act of faith would come to life. And notice how it happens: "by his power." Not ours.
That's good news. God wants you to win. He didn't save you and then leave you to figure it out. He gave you the Holy Spirit to lead you, guide you, and empower you.
Here's our part: Stay close to Him. Stay in tune with the Spirit. Obey when He speaks. In your heart, your thoughts, your words, and your actions.
And when you do, something amazing happens. Jesus is glorified in you, and you are glorified in Him. That's not duty. That's partnership.
R – Heavenly Father, You are God, and we choose to live for You today. You called us when we didn't deserve it. You filled us with Your love and Your Holy Spirit. Lead our thoughts, our words, and our actions today. Fulfill every good purpose You've placed in us, by Your power. Let Jesus be glorified in us. In Jesus' name, amen.
