S – Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:19-20 ESV
O – James gives three practical applications we can do to help us in our daily walk: quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger. Extended anger does not produce righteousness.
A – Imagine a world where these three practices ruled the day. People truly listened, and your words carried weight because someone actually heard them. Nobody fired back an opinion. They thought before they spoke. Emotions didn’t drive the bus.
That’s not just a better world. That’s a better leader. A better marriage. A better you.
Here’s the hard truth: most of us run it backwards. Quick to speak. Slow to hear. Quick to anger. And James tells us exactly where that road ends. Your anger will never produce God’s righteousness. Never.
So which one trips you up the most? Start there. Listen first. Pause before you speak. Let the Spirit, not your emotions, have the final word. This is what mature leadership looks like.
R – Heavenly Father, we worship You and surrender to You today. Slow us down. Open our ears to really hear. Guard our mouths until our words are seasoned with grace. And when anger rises, remind us that it can’t produce Your righteousness. We give You our listening, our words and our emotions. Make us leaders who reflect Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
