Bible Study - I Timothy 3
S - Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16 ESV
O - Commentary:
This truth about godliness being a mystery means that it was hidden but now is revealed. Further, it is a great (mega, “large, important”) “mystery” in that it is overwhelmingly large in scope and sublimely important in significance...the six elements of the excerpt are as follows: (1) Appeared in a body refers to the Incarnation of Christ. (2) Was vindicated by the Spirit refers to God’s demonstration through the Resurrection (cf. Acts 2:24–36), by the Holy Spirit (cf. Rom. 8:11), that the crucified Jesus is Lord and Messiah. (3) Was seen by angels refers to His exaltation before the heavenly realm (cf. Phil. 2:9–11; Col. 2:15; Heb. 1:6). (4) Was preached among the nations (cf. Col. 1:23) and (5) was believed on in the world refer to the progressive fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan through His preordained means (cf. 1 Cor. 1:18–2:5). (6) Was taken up in glory refers to the Ascension

A – Here’s the question that hung over humanity for thousands of years: how would a holy God reach people separated from Him by sin? We couldn’t fix it. We couldn’t climb our way back. We couldn’t pay what we owed.
Then God answered, and Paul packs the whole answer into one verse. Jesus came in the flesh. The Spirit raised Him and proved He was who He said He was. Angels saw Him exalted. The nations heard. The world believed. And He went back to glory.
That’s the mystery, and its name is Jesus.
When you know Him as Savior, His righteousness covers you like a coat. You wear it. It’s on you. People see it. But you didn’t make it, and you didn’t earn it. It came from Christ.
And this isn’t just for a few. It’s for every nation and the whole world. That includes you.
R – Heavenly Father, we worship You and surrender to You. You solved the mystery we never could. You sent Jesus to deal with our sin once and for all. Thank You for Jesus! Grow our relationship with You today, and let His life show in ours. We love You! Amen!
