S - I said in my heart, “I have acquired great wisdom, surpassing all who were over Jerusalem before me, and my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.” And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind. For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

O - Commentary:
Solomon also argued that when he reflected (v. 17) on his surpassing wisdom and vast experience (v. 16) by means of which he had conducted the preceding investigation (cf. v. 13) and had reached his somber conclusion, he realized that it held little real advantage over madness and folly (i.e., foolish ideas and pleasures; cf. 2:2, 13–14). His pursuit of wisdom was as frustrating as chasing after the wind, and its acquisition, far from alleviating the depression created by his somber verdict, merely increased his mental anguish (sorrow) and sadness of heart (grief).

A - Wisdom shows us life as it really is — good and bad, mixed together, every single day. That's the deal. You can't unsee it once you see it. So what do you do with it? You can let that clarity crush you into thinking it's all pointless. Or you can let it push you toward God. Because here's the truth: you were never in control of people, outcomes, or moments — not really. Wisdom just makes that obvious. And once you stop fighting for control you never had, you find peace in the One who actually holds it. That's the whole point of gaining wisdom — not to master life, but to trust the Master of it.
R - Heavenly Father, You are mercy and truth. Thank You for the wisdom You grow in us through every season of life — even the hard ones. Holy Spirit, meet us in that growth. Take what we've learned and multiply it with wisdom only You can give — wisdom we can actually walk out today.
