Bible Study - 2 Timothy 1

S – For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:6–7 ESV

O/A – Everybody faces fear. The question isn’t whether you’ll feel it. It’s what you’ll do with it.

Paul is writing from a prison cell. Timothy is young and under fire. False teachers are pushing in, critics question his age, and he’s leading a church in a hard city. That’s a lot to carry. So Paul reminds him of two things.

First, you have a gift. Fan it into flame. Fire left alone dies down, and you have to stir it up.

Second, you have a Spirit, and it isn’t fear. It’s power when you feel weak, love when you feel attacked, and a sound mind when fear tries to scatter your thinking.

When you invite the Holy Spirit into a fearful moment, you aren’t bringing a little help. You’re bringing the whole character of God into the room. He has no limits. He is bigger than your fear.

So what are you afraid of today? Name it. Then stir the fire.

R – Heavenly Father, You are God, and we are not. Holy Spirit, we invite You into our fears today, into the concerns that keep us up at night and the challenges in front of us. Fan the flame You’ve placed in us. Replace our fear with Your power, Your love, and a sound mind. We walk in confidence today, not because we’re strong, but because You are with us and able to do everything Your will requires. In Jesus’ name, amen.
