S – Then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:9–10 ESV
O – Then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will”: The author of Hebrews takes this to be Christ’s willingness to being the supreme sacrifice for sins. • The author of Hebrews concludes that because of Christ’s sacrifice, God has canceled the first covenant—God’s will, as shown by Ps 40:6–8, was that Christ would die for sins as a sacrifice, and this only had to be done once for all time.
New Living Translation Study Bible (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 2008), Heb 10:8–10.
A – Jesus came with a purpose. Every step He took pointed toward it. Every miracle, every conversation, every mile walked. All of it led to the cross. “I have come to do your will.” No detours. No distractions.
And because He did, we are made holy. Once. For all.
That’s the starting point. Our relationship with God isn’t built on how well we perform. It’s built on what Jesus already finished. Let that settle in before anything else.
But here’s the thing. The same God who had a will for Jesus has a will for you. He made you on purpose and for a purpose. If Jesus built His life and death around the Father’s will, shouldn’t we build ours around it too?
We don’t pursue God’s will to earn His love. We pursue it because we already have it. And that’s where real fulfillment is found. It’s not in chasing our own plans. It’s in living out His, and watching Him use our lives to change the lives of others.
So what’s driving your days right now? Your will or His?
R – Heavenly Father, You are God, and there is no other. We worship You and surrender to You today. Thank You for Jesus, who came to do Your will and made us holy once for all. Thank You for creating us with a purpose. Give us the courage to walk in it every day, and use our lives to help others know You personally. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
