Bible Study - I Timothy 4
S – Scripture
Command and teach these things. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:11–12 ESV
O/A – Observation & Application
Young leaders live in a tension. Age, maturity, and wisdom.
Age is hard because you haven’t had the reps. Maturity is elusive because you haven’t made enough decisions, or watched enough of them play out, to gain the seasoning. And wisdom? Wisdom is taking everything life has taught you and applying it to today’s moment. You can’t turn experiences into convictions if you haven’t lived them yet.
Timothy knew this tension. People were looking at him and thinking, “Too young.” Paul didn’t tell him to argue. He told him to answer with his life. Be the example.
Timothy couldn’t control his age. He couldn’t speed up maturity or manufacture wisdom. But he could control his speech, his conduct, his love, his faith, and his purity.
And so can we.
Every day we make choices in these five areas. So where do we start? With the heart.
What are your convictions? What do you believe so deeply that it shapes how you live?
Then go one step further. What are you thinking about those convictions? The battlefield is the mind. Your flesh will keep pulling you toward what it wants. Settle your thoughts, and you’ve set yourself up to win.
Here’s why it matters. You say what you believe and think. Speech flows from convictions. Conduct follows speech. Love, faith, and purity grow out of a heart that’s been settled.
You don’t need gray hair to lead well. You need a settled heart.
Let’s lead like Timothy today!
R – Response
Heavenly Father, You are the source of true wisdom. Search our hearts and examine our convictions today. Are we honoring You in every area of our lives? Empower us to turn the truth You give us into life-giving convictions, and let those convictions shape our speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Make us examples worth following, so others take a step toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
