Bible Study - I Thessalonians 1

S – For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
1 Thessalonians 1:4–5 ESV

O – Commentary:
The Holy Spirit brought it home to their hearts with deep conviction (John 16:8). Paul's message was marked by his own certainty that this message would change their lives as it had radically changed his.
Not only did Paul and his traveling companions preach a convincing message, but they also lived lives consistent with that message when they were in Thessalonica. The Thessalonians were fully aware of their teachers' manner of life and that their motive was to benefit the Thessalonians. The message Paul preached—the gospel of the grace of God—had entered into the minds and hearts of these Macedonians and they had been saved.

A – Paul didn't just preach the gospel. He lived it.

This wasn't head knowledge left over from his years as a Pharisee. It was real belief in Jesus as the Son of God. And the Holy Spirit gave him the conviction to walk it out.

The Thessalonians watched him. They saw how he worked. They saw how he treated people. They saw that the message and the man matched. And Paul says he lived that way "for your sake." His life was his love for them.

Here's the question: Does your life back up what you say you believe?

People around you may never read a commentary. They may never hear a sermon. But they're watching how you live. When your convictions about Jesus run deep, your life becomes the clearest message they'll ever see.

Preach it. Then live it.

R – Heavenly Father, You are Lord. Root our convictions about Jesus deep in our minds and hearts. Let our lives match what we say we believe. We want to live in a way that shows how much we love You. Thank You for the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Use us to make an impact on every person we cross paths with today. In Jesus' name, amen.
