S — For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

O — The tone and content of this letter make it clear that trying to win the approval of people was not Paul's goal. Paul was probably criticized by the Judaizers for trying to please people by presenting only the part of the Good News pertaining to faith and grace, and not what they perceived to be the whole message including the law. • Being Christ's servant requires fidelity to Christ, regardless of how people respond

A — People-pleasing is a universal temptation. We all want to be liked. We all want people to think well of us. That's not the problem. The problem is what we're willing to trade to get it. Paul's challenge is our challenge too: will we honor God first, even when it costs us the approval of people we love? Will we separate ourselves from the crowd when the crowd is pulling us away from Christ? These aren't casual questions. They carry eternal weight.

R — Heavenly Father, You alone are worthy of praise. Give us the courage to put You first — even when it's costly. Teach us to love people well, without ever letting their approval outrank Yours. You are above everyone and everything in our lives.
