Bible Study - Ephesians 5

S - However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Ephesians 5:33 ESV

O - Paul concludes his teaching on husbands and wives with a summation: husbands love your wives, and wives respect your husbands.

A - Love and respect. Both are needed. Both spouses need both. But Paul zeroes in on the ache each one feels most.

A husband needs respect. Not flattery — respect. He needs to know that who he is, what he does, and how he provides for his family actually matters to the person who knows him best. Strip that away, and something in him starts to shut down.

A wife needs to know she's loved above every other woman on earth. Not tolerated. Not managed. Loved first. That's what makes home feel safe. That's what lets her open up instead of guard up.

Here's the question worth sitting with: Am I giving my spouse what they actually need, or just what's easy for me to give? When both are present — love freely given, respect freely given — you've got a marriage that can weather anything.

R - Father, You are Truth, and Your Word doesn't need updating. Teach us to love the way You define love, and to respect the way You define respect. Where we've grown lazy — where love has gone quiet or respect has gone missing — wake us up. Build something in our marriage that honors You and lasts. Amen.
