Bible Study - James 1 (Part 2)

S - If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him

 James 1:5 ESV

O - Commentary:

To those who feel confused and frustrated by the high goal of “not lacking anything,” James wrote, If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God. Assistance is readily available from “the giving God” (tou didontos theou). To those who lack wisdom, this valuable resource is available for the asking. James assumed his readers would feel the need for wisdom (sophias), not just knowledge. God will not only provide wisdom, but will do so generously, not grudgingly.

 J. Ronald Blue, “James,” in The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures, ed. J. F. Walvoord and R. B. Zuck, vol. 2 (Wheaton, IL: Victor Books, 1985), 821.

A - Wisdom has a powerful expression when we ask God to give it to us.  We have a natural wisdom we develop on our own by just living life.  We get wiser as we get older, have experiences, conversations and situations.  Take all of that and add supernatural wisdom that comes from God and you have an amazing combination of natural and supernatural wisdom.

R - Heavenly Father, you are omniscient, you know all.  We ask that you would generously pour out your wisdom on us today.  Where our lifetime of gaining wisdom ends, would you supernaturally give us your wisdom.  We want to impact our world in a way that reflects you more than us.
